Kinder Rydrion is the eldest son of Matron Kendalia Rydrion of well, House Rydrion. At first, he was just your regular hateful drow- wanting to destroy the surface races, despite his mother's wish to make peace with them, and even tried to get in the good graces of Lolth in his youth to try and spite what he, at the time, thought was a "Pointless Dream" of his mother's.
Until, came one fateful day when he snuck a Lolthite Priestess into the Rydrion Compound in the city of De'Var, and brought her to his mother's Artifact Room to show off, and perhaps have other things happen. Well, while he was messing around with a particularly shiny artifact, the artifact broke and Kinder's soul was painfully fused with that of the Golden Dragon's residing in the aritfact. The noise this incident caused brought forth Kendalia and her guards, who executed the Priestess while Kinder was allowed to go free due to the pain he was in from the fusing of souls. As his mother worried for her eldest son, she had him taken to his room and watched over constantly until the fusion ended.
Of course, during the fusion, Kinder's soul was doing battle with the Golden Dragon's for dominance of his body. He was shown from the dragon's perspective how much of a dick he had been to others, shown his fate if he continued down the path he was on- a fate that terrified him completely.
A fate where he would have been sacrificed to Lolth, had he not picked up the artifact, and used to torment his family to their ends as well.
Realizing that what he did had inadvertently saved his family by accidentally breaking an artifact and summoning the guards with his screams before the Priestess could kill him, Kinder begged the dragon's soul to show him a new path, a path where he could protect his family from harm. The Dragon's soul showed him the fate instore if he allowed the dragon to control his body- a reformed Kinder with the powers of the dragon, but without the actual attachments he could make if he remained in control to redeem himself proper.
So, Kinder reached a compromise: He drives the body, and the dragon gives him the powers to use to protect and redeem himself in the eyes of his family. The Dragon, intrigued by this idea agreed and the two souls became one with Kinder being the dominant personality. Though, a price was paid as the normally reserved drow became much more emotional and a little insane as he realized the truth of his world. A truth involving dice, occasionally funny accents, and a world ruled by luck.
Not that anyone believed him as some people think the incident drove him completely mad, which it did. Probably.
In any event, when the pain in his body finally resided, the first thing he did was break down crying upon seeing his mother, apologizing for being a dick to everyone, for nearly getting everyone killed, and just about every other sin he was aware of committing. He expected to be banished for his apology, but instead, his mother simply consoled him and forgave him. She thanked him for what he did, as that priestess was indeed planning to kill everyone in the Rydrion House as revenge for what Kendalia did to the priestess's mother the day the Rydrion Matron took her place in the house.
Kinder, realizing he'd been played apologized again, hugging his mother tightly and swearing he'll be a changed drow, and try and help her achieve her dream of making peace with the surface- if not for all Drow, then at least for House Rydrion.
Of course, at the time, Kinder's brother Turil was quite a cheerful young man, happy to have a brother who cared for him instead of being distant, and also accepted his apology. The two Rydrion brothers and their father, Zhaern would get along famously, and even have a few misadventures of their own in De'Var.
But, things would change again when Kinder's baby brother Derik, was born. When Derik was born, the Rydrion Brother's father, Zhaern was turned into a Drider, and with the last of his will, the former bard used webbing to stick Kendalia to a wall before running out of the compound, breaking Kinder and Turil's hearts- Turil more so as Kinder's little brother soon became cold and withdrawn. Worried that Turil would become what he used to be, Kinder pleaded with his brother not to turn to Lolth,
All in all, the two brothers kept their antics between them, and those warriors who aided them, deciding not to tell Derik about that incident when he's older as he deserved to grow up with a happy view of the world, like Turil once had.
Things after that were peaceful- the remaining other two houses of De'Var having a stalemate with House Rydrion- which soon had a good chunk of the city under it's control, and Derik got himself into trouble with his older brothers Turil and Kinder doing their best to help him get out of it. Still, Kinder enjoyed having his brothers around, as he felt things were never boring whenever he studied magic as a Wizard. That is, until one day came that once more brought a change to Kinder's life.
The day a Priestess came to the compound to marry Derik. Kinder was appalled that Kendalia was even considering negotiating with the enemy priestess, but when Derik told his brothers he'd rather marry a surface elf than marry Priestess Zer'tath, Kinder saw a glint in his baby brother's eyes as he realized how good an idea that sounded- a sentiment both older Rydrion Brothers soon shared.
So they, with Derik's mentor Jared Darklash, put on disguises and fled the Underdark for the Surface, where the four drow ended up saving the lives of Bethany and Serius Glyder- Wood Elven Siblings that were the children of Jared's former foe, Eramor Glyder, a Paladin of Corellon. Kinder watched and did his best to help Derik win the heart of Bethany, the two fast falling in love and even marrying with Eramor's blessing, though Kinder noticed that Serius had a darkness to him that Kinder himself was all too familiar with as they traveled together to Riftwood, Kinder getting a vorpal dagger along the way as a reward for aiding a tribe of kobolds that had put up a help-wanted sign in the middle of the desert they passed through along the way.
That Darkness would lead to Derik being forced to leave his pregnant wife, and Kinder and Turil working together to watch over Bethany and her newborn daughter Legode, with Kinder even taking over an old tower in Riftwood- where the Jared and the two remaining Rydrion Brothers settled down after Derik left. Of course, Kinder didn't know why his baby brother abandoned his wife and then unborn child, until Turil, who watched the exchange in secret revealed the truth- that Serius had threatened to murder Bethany's child the moment it was born, if Derik didn't leave town, and would do the same to any future children the two had together if Derik chose to stay. Derik, not being one to let a child die for his sake, chose to leave to save his unborn child's life.
A promise the two remaining Rydrion Brothers made sure Serius honored. Though, that did not stop Serius from hurting little Legode, as when the girl was thirteen, a Pit Fiend attacked Riftwood Village, caputring the child and twenty other elves and taking them to a cavern in the woods. While they knew where Legode was, and were quite prepared to save them all, Serius kept delaying them, intending to get the group consisting of Eramor, Bethany, Serius's daughter Kalypso, Turil, and Kinder along with Serius himself from making it to the cavern in time to save everyone. This lasted for three days before the group left without Serius- with Kaylpso distracting her father while the rest of the group went on their rescue mission.
Legode, ended up being the only survivor, but while Kinder had no idea what she had seen, he could tell it affected her deeply as the normally cheerful child had practically become a zombie- merely shuffling around at best, being silent and as if she was trapped inside her own body.
With love for his niece, Kinder strived to find a way to restore his niece to a semblance of her former self, and during the next fifteen years, Kinder would find out that not only did his mother manage to get an exodus going from De'Var, but his old home had collapsed due to a sudden cave in. He didn't know how, exactly, Kendalia managed to get 400 Drow to Riftwood safely, but after negotiations with Eramor, Kendalia and the drow were allowed to stay in Riftwood, while Turil started a settlement an hour away on horseback for the drow that weren't completely comfortable living with elves. Still, Kinder strove to find a way to heal Legode, and with his mother's help, succeeded when he discovered an unusual rose surrounding a ruined castle, a blue and white rose that seemed to have an effect along the lines of helping one emotionally heal from trauma as the scent caused him to actually sort through the pain he felt for failing to protect Legode from the Pit Fiend that captured her.
Getting an idea, he and Kendalia brought the roses to Legode, and surprisingly, the flowers caused her to speak for the first time in fifteen years! He saw her cry, learned that she was aware of everything going on around her while she was in her zombie-like state, but couldn't speak and could only barely move. Kinder, Turil, Kendalia and Bethany all did their best to comfort Legode, just happy that she was able to move and speak again thanks to the strange roses from the old castle. However, they also knew it was time for Legode to start learning how to fight, and so Kinder decided to be the one to teach Legode about the basics of swordsmanship, learning that like her father, she was decent with a rapier and dagger.
However, it was one day that, after Legode managed to get a wild bear under control with animal empathy, did Kinder realize that the path of a Druid or Ranger was right for her, especially when a Gnomish Druid named Starflare decided to take her under his wing and teach her the ways of nature. While Kinder was a bit heartbroken that she wouldn't follow the path of any of her relatives, he did his best to support his Niece, and wished her luck in her endeavors.
He just didn't expect her to return to Riftwood years later with a Dire Wolf as her animal companion and a device her father designed as her weapon of choice. While he did find it funny that Legode was an exceptional druid, he had to admit that he was also sad that their reunion was short lived, as she soon hit 110 years in age, and decided to go on a journey to find her missing father with Yethrys.
It would be eight years before they both returned, with Legode also having killed Serius in her journey before reuniting with Derik, and after Kinder punched his brother for abandoning his wife and child 118 years ago, even he had to admit that he was just happy his family was safe, and even had a surprise waiting for Derik and Legode.
That surprise, was Barnaby, a new creature Kinder had made while Legode was on her journey that he called a Slenderbeast... that he made while drunk off his ass after his mother admonished him for not having a spouse and children yet like Derik, while Turil was busy ruling a new city called New De'Var.
Kinder, after drinking a whole tavern's worth of alcohol, had stumbled back to his tower in his stupor, and from what he recalled, pulled together lizardman bones, frog skin, troll's blood, a human skull, and an illithid's brain among other things he couldn't recall, and blacked out during spell casting, leaving him unable to remember what exactly he did to create the marble sphere he woke up to the next afternoon. After it hatched two weeks later, Kinder was going to killl Barnaby before it could prove to be a danger, before it spoke to him, and hugged him, calling him Father.
He quickly decided he couldn't do it, and put the knife he was going to use away.
As a result of this change of heart, Kinder decided to raise Barnaby as his son, the psionic Slenderbeast learning quickly as it used it's powers, and the heart it had showing kindness to other beings that Kinder couldn't help but feel good about. Sure, things were awkward when Legode and Derik met the monster, but Kinder didn't care, he had a son now, and while it was under most likely very unconventional means, Kinder was happy.
Years would pass and Legode would end up meeting a drow sorcerer named Myzriel, and Kinder watched as the two fell in love, had twins named Killik and Emeraude, got married and eventually had a third child- a son named Kalandyn. Kinder even watched as Turil himself got married shortly after Legode to an Aquariel named Adeyne, who gave Turil a son they named aurin... until a bunch of Vampires attacked and killed Adeyne when Aurin was three, and while Legode and a targeted Myzriel were hiding in the ruined castle- which seemed to have a warding effect around it to prevent harm to those using it as a safehaven, Kinder decided to use his draconic powers to destroy the vampires, basically decimating them as both a Dragon and as a Wizard, while Barnaby helped by using his psionic powers to keep them still for Kinder.
After that, peace would return to Riftwood, and Kinder at present is still examining the ruined, rose-covered castle near his tower, while also being the fun relative to his nephew, great nephews, and great niece, who he has taken under his wing to teach magic to.
All in all, for Kinder, at the moment life couldn't be better.
